Bush’s Treasury official, std “When Republicans claim that higher taxes will destroy the economy, they should be reminded that they made the SAME argument in 1982 (under Reagan) and 1993 (Clinton) and that the actual economic results were the OPPOSITE of what they predicted.And when they denounce Obama’s health plan for expanding the size of government, they should be asked HOW they voted on the Medicare bill in 2003

Bush, “Reagan signed into law major TAX INCREASES E-V-E-R-Y year of his presidency after the first (1981).By the end of his presidency, he took back half of the 1981 tax cut in the form of higher taxes. It should also be noted that when confronted with a crisis in Social Security in 1983, Reagan ENDORSED a rescue plan drafted by Alan Greenspan that consisted almost entirely of HIGHER TAXES.”FACTS!!

      Reagan lowered the tax rate & he may have cut taxes in 1981,but years, thereafter, he RAISED taxes.According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the GDP growth in 1982 in 3rd quarter was -1.5% (after tax rate dropd & taxes cut) & 5th quarter of the same year only .4% growth in GDP.In first quarter 1983 (after taxes raised starting Jan 1983), the GDP growth was 5% and in 2nd quarter GDP growth was 9.3% & 3rd quarter 8.1%, 4th quarter 8.4%.1984 1st qtr 7.1%GDP.FASTEST GDP growth in U.S. History!

      Former President Ronald Reagan’s Economic Policy for 8 years from 1981-1989 including the following: 275.3 bilion dollars in tax cuts and 132.7 billion dollars in tax increases (Office of Management and Budget, FY1990 budget). Any successful president must do BOTH! Just like EVERYTHING else in life, one must maintain a BALANCE.

      @rbs651 Interesting…I was thinking that barsense reminded me of a extended family relative that argues much the same way…shifting base facts, anything to arrive at her liberal conclusion, and yet the conclusions are still valid though she is called on the tainted facts. And she sends signals out that communism isn’t so bad. Maybe people like that have the same values (non-values). Good to here you.

      @TheTalshiar There will be no bill cutting medicare or social security. Sounds like a FoxNews lie. Besides, if any such bill were to pass, it would have to be with full bi-partisan support in the house and senate. Do you really think that is likely? The corporatists got what they wanted because the republicans held the middle-class hostage. Obama did what he had to do to make sure the middle-class taxes didn’t go up. And they didn’t. Because of Obama, YOUR taxes will not go up next year.

      @TheTalshier In general I see 2 types of nations that really thrive. Either natural resources or manufacturing (including farming). examples are: Saudi Arabia/oil (no manufacturing there, I have been in the region and what a bunch of lazy shits they are) Japan no natural resources(not even much land) but lots of manufacturing. We used to have both. Now, people like Obama undercut both. Just taxing will not fix manufacturing, or maximizie our vast natural resources.

      @barsense it’s tough to remember each lie after you tell them isn’t it? It’s funny you are comparing how we grew up when I haven’t said how I was brought up. I haven’t said. Somebody made some assumptions. I don’t mind the assumption that I was brought up rich (it wuld not hurt my feelings) but I was not. I don’t see how I would have left that impression. I CAN see, however, your disdain for me and rich people, thus assuming that me and rich people are one and the same.

      …and got the business from daddy who probably knows better and built the business up as a republican and had the unhappy experience of bringing up an ungrateful barsense who for some reason hates rich people and turned into a spoiled little liberal brat.
      Of course, then there’s that previous story about being from a farming family which makes the tax arguments from such irrelevent.
      In any case, it’s just another case of a liberal painting herself into a corner in an argument.

After screaming how horrible the republicans are in his red southern state has been since the 60′s keeping the little man down, somehow he managed to go from trailer to mansion to not even working because business is so good she doesn’t have to work because she can hire a manager. I hope thats the case, but it kind of undercut’s the argument.
      What is more likely though is that barsense is patterining her life after daddy

      @RatKeg This so nonsensical. Ok, let’s just cut the tax rates to zero. What do you think would happen to the deficit then? Do actually believe it wouldn’t go up?And the congessional budget office says we will have to borrow 900 billion to pay for this latest giveaway. Why would the US government have to borrow 900 billion if it doesn’t increase the deficit? Taxes are bad for business? Funny, we had 90% rates in the 50′s and 70% rates in the 80′s and business seemed to do fine.

      @TheTalshiar It is about the unemployment, GOP will not pass any legislation at all until they get their top income renewals and the dems are one vote short in the Senate of being able to pass anything without a republican vote. Can’t let 15.1 million people go hungry who are depending on unemployment that the GOP will not extend unless they get top income tax renewals. Obama and dems told everyone said they needed the majority and Voters chose to renew by giving majority to GOP

      @impeachobamanow2010 It doesn’t matter which party is in power. They are virtually indistinguishable. By the way the unemployment rate is not 9.8 %. The actual rate is closer to 22%. The government cooks the books to make it seem lower to hide the effects of corporatism and the resulting wholesale effects of offshoring of american industry. Both parties are virtually the same which is why the policies never change. Corporatism is impoverishing the middle class of America.

      @rbs651 Like I said I have not needed ot look for work for nearly 30 years so I would not know. But I have read the BLS stats and 15.1 million people are filing unemployment and there is no where near 15.1 million jobs available and has not been since before the recession. regardless of how well your area is doing this is something that you can only ignore or deny if you choose to live in fantasy land instead of facing reality.

      @rbs651 Yeah now I remember you telling me about that. Seriously though there really are 15.1 million people looking for work and there really is not enough jobs available. Naturally there are people that drag out unemployment as long as they can on purpose but there are just as many that do not want the drop in income and are seriously searching for work.
