Obama Goes Toe-To-Toe With Stephanopoulos On “Tax Increases”

On “This Week,” George Stephanopoulos and President Obama have a colorful discussion over Obama‘s health care reform proposal. Stephanopoulos takes issue with a mandate that obligates Americans to purchase health insurance, or risk being fined as much as $900. “How is that not a tax?” “A responsibility to get health insurance is not a tax increase,” Obama said. Stephanopoulos then tells Obama that he looked up the definition of “tax” in Merriam Webster’s dictionary. “The fact that you looked up… the definition of tax increase indicates that you’re stretching a little bit right now,” Obama responded.

    6. What did the people do to deserve this ????

    7. only Obama could be capable of doing something to this extent, trying to get health coverage for us all. god bless the greatest president of this generation

    10. Obama is a sly and clever smooth talking trickster.Obama is not of God.Obama has sinned away his day of grace.

    11. Obama is a dirty nigger

    12. @AP0CALYPSY And he is in my eyes (as an european) one of the worst presidents in the last hundred years. He may be trying, but that doesn’t mean that what he does is right or in any sense good for America. I’m convinced he has the best intentions in mind, but what he has done so far is economic suicide. He’s doing the same as Bush, only worse! And Europe isn’t doing any better. The west is rotting up in welfare programs and big government mentality, and it’s destroying our world.

    13. No one cares what you think. Thanks for wasting our time.

    14. @AP0CALYPSY yeah, listen to the european. cause you guys are doing so well…

    15. Obama is in my eyes (as an european ) one of the best presidents in the last decades he tries at least to improve america in stead of letting it ruin itself and of course you can’t get results in a few months but taxes are really important
don’t forget that Obama needs to clean up Bush’s mess

    16. what about something called separation of church and state. people who attend the church of scientology believe that god will heal them through prayer .they don’t use hospitals . will these people be exempt ? one more thing i can choose to walk or ride the bus and not pay auto insurance . but not this. this is bad news. we thought we had a problem with people abusing prescription drugs before just wait.

    17. @Dajuro PREACH!!!!!!!!!!

    18. wow so full of himself

    19. @Dajuro How is he more dishonest than the last president who launched a war against a country that had NO WMD and no ties to 9/11. A war that the United nations called illegal. Bush spent a trillion dollars on Iraq. I’m no Obama supporter though. It seems like his solution to everything is to tax the heck out of wealthy people. He seems to think that magic fairies blessed the rich with money and that he can just take it.

    20. Obama is so full of shit it’s unbelievable.

    21. @Dajuro Destroy these idiotic comments with thumbs down people. Fools may infest Youtube but I don’t want to see this crap shoved in my face when I come to watch a video.

    22. @cedarbeam Finally, someone who sees the true liars for who they are. Obama may not be perfect, but next to Bush, anyone is an honest genius.

    23. @Dajuro Oh no, he doesn’t hold a candle to that lying Bush and his weapons of mass destruction that has cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars. Or go back in history and remember tricky Dick Nixon? No, Obama is right in what he says here. Requiring people to take responsibility for their medical care is not a tax. Why should I have to pay your medical costs because you don’t have insurance?

    24. I agree here with the logic it has nothing to do with obama or the interview but as far as the debate goes…he is right why should everybody have to pay for certain individuals who don’t want health insurance until something bad happens one day and you have a huge medical bill and you can’t pay it no taxpayers have to help you thats wrong….if auto insurance is a must and you go to jail for not having it health should be the same either that or make it free like every other country

    25. WTF he has siding with republicans the entire time, but kept in the shadows to keep a god image! WTF he makes no sense and he’s f%cking thing up like bush.
