My Tribute to Jimi Hendrix – Tax Free Live at Winterland
• Related • Filed Under
This is my first video! Horayy! xD The video is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix and all his fans. I made it also as my first home made video, so the timing could be better, but I tried to capture the essence of Jimi’s expressions and the whole mood he puts into the solo/song he plays. And if anybody is going to make a cover, let me know. And the same goes for a tab, cause this is one of the songs I wanna learn the most

It’s nice. But I still think the original is the best. By Hansson & Karlsson so to say.

Written by Swede Bo Hansson who was in a duo called Hansson & Karlson supporting Jimi on his Swedish tour.

Incredible version of Tax Free, have been listening to this for 20 years and never bored of it…. the bit around 4:30 onwards with Noel redding overdriving his bass and Jimi cutting in is amazing … top marks

This is so heavy: there are moments on this track when you’d swear it was 4 or 5 guys playing – hard to believe there’s just three dudes making all that noise. Such a tight performance too – I always imagined Hendrix was pretty loose and free when it came to preparation but they must have had some serious rehearsal to pull this one off: the interplay and changes are so intricate, and it’s just perfect. Definitely one of the best dozen or so live Hendrix tracks captured on tape.

@SteadyHaze That’s a groovy performance, no doubt – but this one takes it, for me.

@IExposeMormonism Damn you. If I could see ONE concert, it would be this performance. I’ve listened to this record countless times. Hendrix perfection.

I dedicate this song to Bo Hansson whom passed today

@hypnotstcollector It’s possible you saw Jimi earlier in ’68 as I think he might have played Winterland at that time. He definitely played Winterland in October of ’68.
But he never played Winterland in ’69 or ’70.
Comment by IExposeMormonism on 12 December 2010:
@cutis1000 Wel, I spoke with my friend and there is some confusion. But I’m sure I saw Hendrix 2X at Winterland. But I’ll have to speak with my friend some more and see what we can sort out…There was some Panama Red involved and to this day we all say it was the best we ever saw. This was 1969..And we saw and still see plenty. I recall one Winterland was a weekend that was recorded, made into an album. Buddy Miles was an act at one. I think Neil Diamond was an act at (same?) one.

@mance02 LA Forum 1969.04.26 obviously slipped your mind. That’s ok, it happens.
Comment by cutis1000 on 12 December 2010:
@IExposeMormonism You didn’t see Jimi at Winterland twice because Jimi last played Winterland in October of ’68 and did not play Winterland in ’69.

wonderfull guitar improvisation, players should hold notice how good this guy was, some of the sounds he gets out of his guitar just can’t be duplicated.
