@Sanescience what makes you say that? bio fuels have been researched seriously since the 1970s and they still cant make it economical. All these exxon commercials about them are complete bs, PR pleasers. Within 5 years, musk will have an affordable EV costing under 30k that will be able to go 230 miles on one charge on the market.

Fact: Musk’s hair has grown denser after he got rich. This shows that baldness is no match for wealth.

I wonder what the 10 questions Andy Beal would be if he was to ask them?…commercial space rockets was Andy’s idea, NOT Elon Musks’.
Comment by Sanescience on 3 February 2011:
I think Elon “could” be right about electric cars but probably oil companies will crush it with green carbon neutral bio-diesel that will be better suited to the infrastructure we currently have.

It’s really funny how he struggles around 4:40-4:50, he was being really careful not to say Space-X will be the best. Even though that’s most likely true and he knows it.

@Idiomatick “WAY more efficient than a car engine” – not really. Average efficiency of a coal power station sits at 36% energy conversion and gas-fired at around 50% – without taking into account of energy loss through substations getting it to your house. A typical diesel engine manages closer to 40% efficiency and 30% to the wheels. Going to electric wont make much overall difference until the actual source of the energy is clean.
Comment by Idiomatick on 3 February 2011:
@YairNava100 Because coal power plants are WAY more efficient than a car engine. AND it is far cheaper to make coal plants more efficient than it is to make thousands of cars more efficient. A coal plant has round the clock workers making sure the plant is working at peak condition. Your car … likely a few times a year… A plant can spend $10k to be more efficient … I doubt you can do the same for your car. Also, not all electricity is coal, with time that too will improve. Hope that helps.

@elonmusk Tesla made earthquakes in 1899 bitches. Tesla died in Hotel New Yorker Room No. 3327 – 3328 because Yakutat Bay Epicenter Time in 1899 on September 3rd was 3h 3m 27s – 3h 3m 28s on the first man made major earthquake. That is why he was “overly obsessed” with the number 3 and could only hint that he? was behind the Scottis Rite 33rd degree. Earthquake British Association No. 333 on Sept. 3 at 3:03 p.,m. epicenter time 1899.

Just to be clear Mr Musk, you’re not accepting a loan from the Department of Energy, you’re accepting tax dollars from U.S. Citizens. The DOE, or any other government entity makes no money and has no money of it’s own.
Having said that, I wish you the best of luck with all your ventures, electric and otherwise. Capitalism will save us from oil dependency.

lol you can tell the interviewer wishes he could pull the trigger on elon’s goods
Comment by moneyman10k on 3 February 2011:
@YairNava100 because big coal power plants in every city are more efficient than small gas power plants in every car
Comment by rock3tcat on 3 February 2011:
Electric cars won’t make it, again… :-

@YairNava100 To build up the American economy. American made energy. Also, renewable energy generation can be expanded.
Comment by sirachman on 3 February 2011:
@YairNava100 Because electricity can potentially come from any renewable/clean source unlike gasoline or any other option. In short electric has the most potential for being green of any option because any form of power can be stored electrically. Fusion/solar/wind/geothermal can all be used to charge an electric car for example. This is about the future, not what can be implemented in a half assed manner. Also if you look at the pollution caused by coal to power electric it is cleaner than gas.
Comment by YairNava100 on 3 February 2011:
What’s the point of electric cars if most electricity in the U.S. comes from coal power plants?
Comment by jibronii77 on 3 February 2011:
God, if I can ever afford a Tesla Roadster …
